Leicester
Sutton Vane Associates lit a number of iconic buildings throughout Leicester. The schemes focused on highlighting the impressive but underappreciated architectural details on the buildings, giving them the appreciation and grandeur, they deserved. Through lighting buildings in the city centre like Café Bruxelles and the Turkey Café a friendly and warm night-time scene has been created, whilst also enticing customers in. Blunt Shoes and the YMCA are located across the street from one another so SVA created a scheme that creates rhythm between the two architecturally contrasting buildings, with uplights providing pillars of light on the facades and details picked out. This helps give a rhythm to the street and was key to the unified look of the finished scheme
St Nicholas’ Church and the nearby Jewry Wall were also lit by SVA. The lighting of the 2nd century wall was particularly important as it is one of the last few monuments of Roman Leicester. The wall was lit from below meaning visitors continue to have an uninterrupted view of the landmark whilst also revealing the texture and character of its surface.
