Limnerslease
Sutton Vane associates were commissioned to light the studio of legendary British painter and sculptor, George Frederic Watts. The studio restoration was part of a larger project to renovate and open his home, Limnerslease, to the general public. With such a historically important building, it was important that the restoration was highly accurate, so photographs were used to carefully replicate the interior as best as possible, which meant lighting had to be subtle or completely hidden. His studio includes many priceless items that are very light sensitive, so the scheme focused on gentle touches of light as well controlling the natural daylight, so as not to damage the artefacts. Narrow beamed, high colour rendering spotlights quietly positioned on the pre-existing architecture were used to pick out paintings on the wall, with high level spotlights shining down to provide general lighting.
