Sutton Vane Associates were commissioned to light this historic and luxurious private residence, located in the heart of central London. The building has many beautiful architectural features that needed to be celebrated with the new scheme. Equally due to the Grade II listed heritage of the building, existing period fittings had to be renovated and retrofitted. A particular focus of the scheme was to reintroduce a sense of daylight into the spaces, as since the building was built in the 19th century a number of its large windows and lay lights had been blocked out by subsequent buildings. SVA successfully achieved this using carefully chosen warm linear lighting to imitate sunlight, breathing new life into the spaces and revealing the beauty of the intricate windows (shown below). Existing chandeliers in the lobby areas were replaced with period appropriate pendant lights that unlike the previous fittings throw light both upwards and down, flooding the spaces with light.
