The Sheikh Abdullah Al Salem Cultural Centre Kuwait

The Al Salem Cultural Complex in Kuwait is the largest museum complex in the world, comprising of 6 separate full-sized museums.

Sutton Vane were selected to design the entire interior lighting scheme. Including the design of special light inspired installations, one of which being the blood cell exhibit. This exhibit used a dynamic chase sequence across hundreds of globes of light concealed behind a black mesh, to recreate the effect of blood cells attacking bacteria. SVA designed the exhibit which was manufactured by Universal Fibre Optics and resulted in a fascinating spectacle of light to entice and captivate visitor’s minds’.

The Animal Theatre exhibit of the Al Salem Cultural Complex displays captivating displays, including full-sized dinosaur models. A striking lighting scheme has been implemented that highlights the contrasting patterns of the various fossils, with huge dinosaur models lit from beneath – redefining the sense of scale within the space. From dense rainforests to arid deserts, a range of natural environments are explored in the ecosystems exhibit. Lighting plants can be challenging – due to their uneven structure and colour distribution. The team at Sutton Vane have created a striking effect, using beams of light to mimic sun rays piercing through the misty jungle air, creating dappled effects. The use of light fittings that produce high quality light helped to accentuate the vivid colours of tropical plants.
