The Mitsubishi Corporation Japanese Galleries at the British Museum house the most comprehensive collection in Europe of artefacts and artworks from Japan. Sutton Vane Associates designed the circulation and showcase lighting within the galleries and stairwells.

To reflect the Japanese culture the lighting is simple and elegant whilst providing calm and order within the space. The artefacts are lit in a respectful manner, highlighting each element to accentuate the rich tones and details.

The scheme was an honourable mention at the 2020 LIT Lighting Design Awards.
