The Napoleon Cellar
The Napoleon Cellar built in the 19th century, was used by Napoleon in the 1840s whilst exiled to hold meetings to plot his return to France. The space is now used for wine tasting and dining, formal and informal gatherings and can be hired out. Sutton Vane Associates created a discrete lighting scheme in order to protect and celebrate the cellars historic features.
Due to the historical significance of the cellar, lighting had to be installed without disturbing or drilling into the fabric of the building. SVA utilized the existing tension wire system to fit dimmable high quality LED lamps, that would light the table without creating glare. High colour rendering lamps were chosen in order to reveal the true colours of the wine. Concealed lighting helps to accentuate the form of the building and give added interest to the space by enhancing the texture of the brickwork.
