Town Church Guernsey

The Town Church, also known as the Parish Church of St Peter Port is the main church in Guernsey and dates from 1250. Sutton Vane Associates designed the lighting for both the interior and exterior of this incredibly important church.

The interior lighting focused on retaining and retrofitting existing light fittings where possible, such as the choir lights which were wired into the central control system to aid usability. Where lights had to be added, discrete or period appropriate fittings were chosen to minimize the impact of the new lighting on the church.

Hidden spotlights were used throughout to pick out key architectural details and also provided much needed additional lighting to the choir pews. The vaulted ceiling was uplit to display its impressive structure. Multiple lighting scenes were created so that the church lighting can be quickly and easily adjusted for different events and occasions.

The lighting for the exterior of the church focuses on the main tower and spire, to create a shining beacon reaching towards the sky. It now rightly takes centre stage on the harbor front. The stained glass on the west side is backlit to reveal its stunning colours and details.
